Bedford High School Cross-Country competes in the Dual County League, or DCL. This league consists of nine school districts in Middlesex County, plus one in Boston. The ten schools in the DCL include:
- Bedford High School, Bedford
- Concord-Carlisle Regional High School, Concord
- Lincoln-Sudbury Regional High School, Sudbury
- Weston High School, Weston
- Westford Academy, Westford
- Wayland High School, Wayland
- Acton-Boxborough Regional High School, Acton
- Newton South High School, Newton
- Boston Latin School, Boston
- Waltham High School, Waltham
The DCL operates under the general rules and guidelines for interscholastic sports set by the Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association, or MIAA. However, like other athletic leagues, it does set its own rules regarding recognition of top runners (DCL All-stars), sportsmanship awards and the league championship race.
The DCL season consists of 5 meets - four double-dual meets (three teams competing) and a dual meet (two teams competing). Meets are held on Wednesdays, with a 4:00pm starting time. Each meet consists of four races - JV Boys, JV Girls, Varsity Boys, Varsity Girls - and the order of the races alternates each year. In odd years (2013), the order is: JV Girls, Varsity Boys, Varsity Girls, JV Boys. In even years, the order will be JV Boys, Varsity Girls, Varsity Boys, JV Girls. If necessary, due to weather, field size or other circumstances, races may be combined (for example, a combined JV Boys and JV Girls race).
DCL races are between 4K (2.6mi) and 5K (3.1mi) in length. The exception to this is the JV race in the first meet of the year will be 3.5K (2.2mi) long. All other meets will use the same length course for varsity and JV races.
Meets are scored using the finishing position of the top five runners from each team. In the event of a tie, the sixth-place runner will be the tie-breaker.
The 2013 DCL Championship is scheduled for Friday October 25.
